#BeLessProductive

March 6th 2021

IT’S TEMPTING TO LEARN FRENCH, MASTER SOURDOUGH AND WRITE A NOVEL IN LOCKDOWN 2.0. BUT WE’RE HERE BELIEVING IN THE POWER OF BEING LESS PRODUCTIVE.

As branches, bare of their golden leaves, stretch towards grey skies and the days draw ever darker, many of us in Lockdown 2.0 are reaching for the Achievement Manual and seeking to boss our month indoors. It’s totally understandable. This year has been a bumpy one and many a shoulder is still tense from the grip the United States’ presidential election held on the world last week.

When faced with adversity, it makes total sense to put the armour on and do the very best we can. If we learn a new language, make it from zero to grade eight on the piano in just a few weeks, we’re asserting control on a world that’s in disarray. Right?

But what if that were in fact supremely unhelpful? What if, by pressuring ourselves to do better, we’re doing the thing that’s most unkind on ourselves? What if this added to-do list only adds to the pressure the world is pressing on us right now?

At LoveMyRead, we’ve long believed in the power of cosying up with a book and right now, we are oh-so-thankful to be surrounded by so many brilliant reads. It feels like such a blessing that the books available in our November edition are set in beautiful places we can escape to in mind and spirit, like sunny Europe, verdant Ireland and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. They’re books with big hearts, transporting stories and absorbing plots.

Now is such a good time for our emotional health to sit back and reflect on how we feel – especially for kids. Our children’s books this month have been chosen with care. We love Jeremy’s Worried About The Wind for its heartfelt story about overcoming worry and fear; Bandit’s Daughter for its strength and courage; Glassheart for the way it so gently helps its readers deal with grief; and of course for the littlest ones, a totally charming celebration of this year’s heroes, the key workers depicted in A Superhero Like You.

We’re snuggling up with a good book this weekend. Whatever you do, we hope you take time out too.
