Which book to pick?
March 6th 2021
AT LOVEMYREAD, WE SELECT OUR SIX PICKS FROM HUNDREDS OF TITLES EACH MONTH, FROM FICTION TO NON-FICTION, FROM MAJOR PUBLISHERS TO TINY INDIES.
Time is ticking to make your pick for October… As the clocks go back and autumnal drizzle blankets the land, we can think of no better thing this weekend (or weekday, or any day, really), than snuggling up with a book. If you haven’t yet worked out which one is for you yet, here’s a simple guide.
The Illustrated Child – For hot chocolate drinkers and big dreamers.
If you want a book that will rekindle that childhood excitement for a treasure hunt, that will break and make your heart again and transport you to a totally magical world…this is the one for you.
The Windsor Knot – Tea, milk first. In fact, get the fine china out.
If you’ve always suspected that there’s more to Her Majesty The Queen than meets the eye, you’ll love this murder mystery in which our monarch meets Miss Marple and turns detective. Uproariously funny and totally charming.
Should We Fall Behind – Black coffee. Keep it simple but oh so lovely.
If you love a book that takes a dive into the depths of the human soul and (after a bit of rummaging) shows you all of its goodness in technicolour, choose this one – because it will make you fall in love with the world and all the people in it all over again.
David Attenborough – Peppermint, grown on the windowsill for total eco-goals.
If you want the wisest man in the world’s opinion on the planet, this astonishing, hopeful, beautiful book is for you (and frankly, who doesn’t want to read a whole book in Attenborough’s dulcet tones?!)
Loud Black Girls – Espresso and truth telling = wokeness
If you believe that books have the power to change the world, read this one and feel empowered, educated, inspired and proud – and then get everyone around you to read it too.
The First Woman – Feminism calls for mimosa, darling.
There are escapist books and then there are those that are utterly intoxicating – which transport us to another time and place. Read this one if you want to bathe your soul in a story about the strength of womankind.
Whichever book you choose this month, curl up and enjoy.
