Nancy Mitford's Pursuit of Love is a pleasure as intense as inheriting a perfect pearl necklace, or finding a silk dress in a vintage shop that fits like a glove. Mitford's semi-autobiographical book chronicles a pre-war world stuffed with madly eccentric family members, tortuous love-affairs, fur coats, balls and sparkling chat that slips down as easy as a glass of champagne. I genuinely don't know anyone who doesn't love it.

What the Critics are Saying

A kind of perfection' Olivia Laing

The Guardian

Peerless ... beneath the surface of Mitford's wit, there is something infinitely more melancholy at work.

Zoe Heller

A masterpiece ... The Pursuit of Love is one of the funniest books ever written.

India Knight, The Times

A dazzling comic delight.
